Miss Supranational Gibraltar: Sian Dean
This week GibGirl caught up with the beautiful Sian Dean who’s getting ready to head to Poland to represent Gibraltar on the International stage for the Miss Supranational beauty pageant.
We talk to Sian about why she entered the Miss Gibraltar pageant, breaking the status quo of modelling, her training and preparation, and her love for Martial Arts.
I never thought I was ‘tall enough’ for it. But it got me thinking, there only needs to be that one person to buck the trend.
What are your hobbies? BJJ, Mixed Martial Arts & skiing.
Favourite food? My Fiancés homemade Curry.
Perfect day out? My perfect day in.
Worst habit? I have the habit of saying ‘Yes’ to everything.
Football team/Favourite sports figure? Conor Macgregor – Reason being, he came from nothing and with dedication and persistence he became one of the world’s best mixed martial artists.
A person who inspires you and you view as a role model?
My mother, she inspires me to always do my best and to always believe in myself, because anything is possible.
If you could change one thing about the world how it is today, what would that be? Eradicate terrorism.
BEAUTY PAGEANTS – BUCKING THE TREND:
What made you decide to get involved in modelling and beauty pageants?
I had never really thought about the modelling world, as I never thought I was ‘tall enough’ for it. But it got me thinking, there only needs to be that one person to buck the trend. I wanted to inspire people to not give up on their dreams because of perceived limits.
Part of the reason you entered Miss Gibraltar was for the experience and to enhance your self confidence. Looking back, is there anything you’d change or do differently?
I would have liked to have entered Miss Gibraltar with some knowledge and experience in pageants, but I believe that not having any, made me who I was throughout the competition and most of all on the night of the show.
How does it feel to be going to Miss Supranational and representing your country on the International stage?
It is very nice to be able to represent my country and promote Gibraltar on a Global Platform.
What will your schedule be like once you arrive in Poland?
Busy, I probably won’t have time to sleep, but we will see what the pageant brings.
What do you think will set you apart from the other contestants?
Quite a few of the contestants are prepared for a pageant like this from a young age, and most of them are there to win the crown. I on the other hand, am going with an open mind, I wish to enjoy this experience to the fullest, make new friends and experience Poland first hand.
We’ve been following you @sian.d_06 on instagram and can see the preparation has been quite hard going. Can you tell us a bit about your physical training routine?
It hasn’t been as intense as I would have liked it to be, but these last two weeks I will be giving it my all.
You also love Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts. How hard has it been to keep up the MMA training and prepare for Miss Supranational?
Well, I am lucky enough to have my fiancé, which is not only my personal trainer but also my MMA instructor! He has been mixing it up for me, including MMA to my daily workout routine.
What has kept you motivated throughout this whole journey?
It’s not so much what has, but who has, my mother has mentally kept me going through out the Miss Gibraltar pageant and now the Miss Supranational pageant. My fiancé has kept me in check when it has come down to my physic and healthy eating.
What’s been your best during/moment since the Miss Gibraltar Pageant?
When my contestant number was called, I was experiencing so many emotions it was unbelievable.
It was an amazing experience, I was lucky enough to win 2nd Princess and given the opportunity to represent my country at the Miss Supranational 2017 pageant.
What would you do if you won the Miss Supranational pageant?
To be honest, I have no clue, but something I do know is I would never let it change who I am and the things I love doing. I would like for it to open doors to more amazing experiences and I know winning Miss Supranational would make my family proud.
What would you say to any young women thinking about entering a beauty pageant like Miss Gibraltar but who had some doubts?
Go for it, I had doubts and I am so glad I made the decision I made. It was an amazing experience, I was lucky enough to win 2nd Princess and given the opportunity to represent my country at the Miss Supranational 2017 pageant.
